If your looking for a good read poolside this summer go no further than this book Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. It was published in 2012 and made the international best seller list which is how I usually pick any of my books .. and I've never been disappointed. Without giving too much away the book follows the story of husband Nick Dunn to wife Amy Dunn and their troubeled marraige, you ultimately wrestle with the question did he do it. I read a review on amazon just recently and they couldn't describe it better

her work “draws you in and keeps you reading with the force of a pure but nasty addiction.” Gone Girl’s toxic mix of sharp-edged wit and deliciously chilling prose creates a nerve-fraying thriller that confounds you at every turn.

Just by chance I read today that the book is being made into a movie... just another good sign that it's worth the read.

If you want to escape the heat there looks to be some good movies out now and whilst I've only had the opportunity to see one I highly recommend American Hustle.

As the opening credits state "some of this actually" , the movie is set in the late 70's and is about a con artist and his partner forced to work with the FBI pushing them into a dangerous world of mafia and powerbrokers  ... It is extremely well cast which is probably why all lead and supporting actors are up for Academy Awards, it is so clever and it is so funny all at the same time.

And if you want to see a killer comb over it is a must!!!
